10 Picture perfect places around the world

by Maylynn Bloom |

These travel destinations are some of the most picture perfect places in the world. Some are easily accessible and some more remote, but all worth seeing at least once in your lifetime.

1. Pamukkale, Turkey

Turkish for ‘cotton castle’, Pamukkale is a stunning stretch of natural hot mineral springs that cascade over a cliff forming travertines from calcium deposits left behind that develop into warm, mineral-rich pools.

2. Ayers Rock, Australia

Known to local indigenous Aboriginal people as Uluru, Ayers Rock is a mountainous color-changing sandstone formation in the Australian desert that glows red at dusk and dawn. The rock itself and the region around it bear significant cultural and historical reverence to the land.

3. Giant’s Causeway, Ireland

According to Gaelic folklore, this stunning expanse of interlocking cliffs and columns was created by legendary giants and fairies as a causeway to Scotland. The columns fade into stepping stones that lead and disappear into the sea.

4. The Fairy Pools of the Isle of Skye, Scotland

Running water streams down a mountain face splashing into a series of brightly colored still pools.

5. Grand Canyon, Colorado, U.S.A

This vast expanse of geological wonder spans thousands of miles across 5 U.S. states, including Arizona, Nevada, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico. To date, scientists are still baffled by the process of its creation, but its resulting beauty continues to be carved and enhanced by the Colorado River that runs through it.

6. Carerra Lake, Buenos Aires/Chile

Carrera Lake is a marvelous body of water spanning the boarders of Chile and Argentina and surrounded by the Andes Mountains. At its center, great geological marble formations protrude in the form of caves, columns and tunnels.

7. Lake Kawaguchi, Japan

Lake Kawaguchi is second largest and most popular of the five Fuji lakes for its view of Mount Fuji through the Cherry Blossoms.

8. Jiuzhaugou, China

Meaning ‘Valley of Nine Fortified Villages’, Jiuzhaigou is part of the Min Mountains on the edge of the Tibetan Plateau in the Sichuan province of China set in picturesque waterfalls, colorful lakes and snow-capped mountains.

9. Putangirua Pinnacles, New Zealand

A backdrop of hoodoos or rock spires that protrude from a lush green and serene valley, the Putangirua Pinnacles was the stage for the filming of scenes from Lord of the Rings.

10. Niagra Falls, Canada

Lakes Superior, Erie, Huron and Michigan (collectively known as the Four Great Lakes) supply the Niagra River, creating 3 falls (American, Bridal and Horseshoe) that converge to form Niagra Falls. The second largest falls in the world, Niagra Falls crests over a 170-foot cliff, plummeting to a raging river below that empties into Lake Ontario. In winter, the mist from the falls freezes, forming amazing giant ice sickles that sometimes form an ice bridge stretching several miles across the falls.
